ADAPTABLE SURFACES
Surfaces and Components
Surfaces are usually structured (weaves, knots, tiles, etc.) and thus generated
through the diverse interaction and combination of single components subjected
to specific rules. The character of the surface is a product of the behaviour of
these single components.
SS 2007
Students developed a component through the use of generative software (Generative
Components (Bentley)). The potential of the components, its flexibility and structural
efficiency was developed step by step. Result were substantial digital demonstrations
of its capabilities and the production of digitally made physical models (laser cut).
WS 2007/08
Students generated single components through hand-crafted working models
that demonstrated a specific logic. Those working models were further developed
and concluded in large-scale installations in a Viennese gallery space.
Subsequently these built models were numerically seized and further development
was conducted digitally to enhance the potential.
